RESEARCH:
My research is dedicated to exploring state and local history, with a particular emphasis on the textile industry in the Upstate region. This scholarly work involves meticulous examination of historical records, artifacts, and oral histories to uncover the rich legacy of textiles in this area. Additionally, I am actively studying Clemson University’s history to enhance the identification and understanding of its historical narratives and significant figures.
Through these efforts, I aim to contribute to a broader understanding of regional history and support Clemson University’s academic and community engagement goals. My ongoing research project, hosted on wovenmemories.org, seeks to expand the scope of study to include mill towns, culture, and child labor in both Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina.
My work in digital history and archival interests are designed to complement and enhance each other. I have been cataloging older and rare books from 1666 to 1880 and intend to create a comprehensive dataset of children who worked in mills from 1880 to 1920. This interdisciplinary approach aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the historical context and social dynamics of the textile industry in this region.
